My friend's son is graduating from pre-school and his sister is 8. I am not attending the graduation but should I still get a gift for him - and what about his sister? Whats a good gift for a 3 or 4 year old?

It depends on how close you are with your friend. Also, is the sister celebrating an occasion of her own? I would concentrate on the little graduate. OK, I have to be the voice of reason here. !Graduating from pre-school?! Not every day in a persons life should be rife with celebration and gift giving. If you start now with something so mundane what will you be giving for his University graduation? A house?

I'm with Carly. Probably best to hold off on giving a gift in this situation lest you contribute to 'gift inflation'. Just my 2 cents.

I have to agree with Carly here. I do realize that there are pre-schools in Los Angeles that cost upwards of $10,000 a year and some sort of 'graduation' is therefore required. But I think you should put a stop to the madness. Did the pre-schooler send out announcements? Tell your friend "that's great" and move on to important things.
