National Boss Day is an opportunity for you to thank your boss for being a mentor and leader throughout the year. How long you've worked together and how well you know each other will play into your gift-giving decision. If you want to play it safe, a modest food gift basket is a great choice. Spending too much or giving a gag gift to a relatively new boss could lead to an awkward situation. If you know your boss has a great sense of humor, then a gag gift paired with a non-gag gift item such as a coffee gift card is a good idea.
