Engagement Gifts & Engagement Gift Ideas

Engagement gifts are typically a small token of affection.

Congrats to the happy couple! We all seem to have the etiquette-thing down when it comes to buying a wedding present. But what is the etiquette when it comes to an engagement gift? Are we required to send or bring one to an engagement party?

Should I buy an Engagement Gift?

Consider your relationship to the couple. If you are acquaintances, a handwritten note congratulating the engaged is a lovely touch. If you are close friends or a family member, you may want to purchase a gift. However, there is no requirement to do so. If you are attending an engagement party and think you might feel awkward walking in without a present, there are many items that you could buy with a budget in mind.

How Much Should I Spend?

Engagement gifts are typically a token of affection and are therefore usually less expensive than what might be spent on a wedding present. A bottle of nice Champagne, elegant wine glasses or a “love-themed” gift basket filled with indulgent treats is a fun way to celebrate the couple.

Deciding to purchase an engagement gift is really an individual decision based on personal preference and relationship to the couple. If you do purchase one, keep it on the smaller side and within your budget. Remember, you’ll soon be buying a wedding gift too.
