gifts.com enables "assistant-free" gift giving for administrative professionals' day
the #1 gifting destination online now offers the web's most flexible, convenient, e-mailable gift certificate

New York, NY – April 16, 2008. Administrative Professionals' Day is April 23, and executives across the country are wondering, "What do I get for the person who does everything?" To answer this gifting question and help bosses show their appreciation for a job well done, Gifts.com, the leading gift recommendation and advice site, has created a list of do's and don'ts when it comes to buying a gift for the assistant in your life.

Do's

  • Do show that you know them. Assistants know your calendar inside and out, but do you know more than just their phone number by heart? Give a gift that celebrates their personality and interests whether its tickets to their favorite band, a cookbook signed by their favorite celebrity chef or a gift card to their favorite store or cafe.
  • Do get them something they can enjoy away from the office. It's a nice thought to take them to a fancy lunch, but what they really want is time away from the office with friends and loved ones. Treat them (and their significant other) to a night on the town, a wine tasting or day at the spa. Better yet, give them a paid day off to enjoy it.
  • Do pair your gift with a hand-written note. Acknowledge their hard work with a card thanking them, using specific examples of how they make your life run seamlessly. A gift may seem disingenuous without a proper thank-you attached.

Don'ts

  • Don't pick something up at the drugstore. Would your assistant buy your clients a gift from the corner deli or your wife's flowers from the grocery store? No! They make the effort to make you look good every time, so make sure to reciprocate at least once a year with something classy and thoughtful.
  • Don't get too personal. Clothing, jewelry and fragrances imply a level of intimacy that isn't workplace appropriate.
  • Don't give a desk accessory unless it's really unique, fun or modern. Try something fresh and useful like an iPod dock with speakers. Now that's a paperweight they'll actually appreciate.
